Key Question: Why is this book so important to Spanish culture?

What did this book mean to people when it was written?
Who wrote Don Quixote? When? How long did it take to write?
What was the author like? What did they think of the book?
What is the moral of the story? The reason?
Why are there two seperate books to make up "one big novel?" Were they written at different times?
